The Boston Celtics were the most stacked team in the NBA last season, and it wasn’t even close.
Nonetheless, even great teams can get better, and they wanted to leave nothing to chance in the NBA Finals.
That’s why nothing was going to keep Kristaps Porzingis off the floor in the potential game-clinching matchup.
Recently, Joe Mazzulla revealed that he would’ve used Porzingis in Game 4 in an end-of-game scenario in which he had to protect the rim or on a critical jump ball, but with his team down big time, that just wasn’t necessary (Via Barstool Sports).

However, when it came to Game 5, Porzingis just wasn’t going to be denied.
The Celtics coach revealed that he was dealing with a very serious injury, yet he overruled the medical staff and claimed that he was definitely going to play in Game 5.
Porzingis knew that this was a critical time for the team and in his career, so he was more than willing to put everything on the line to get the job done.
Mazzulla praised him for working so hard to get back on the court, which is something not many players would’ve done.
Then again, it’s not like Porzingis was a rookie or about to sign his first big contract.
He’s been in this league long enough and has already made generational wealth from the game of basketball.
All players dream of being out there in the NBA Finals, and Porzingis wanted to help his team and fulfill his dream; he didn’t care about the potential consequences.
