After coming one win shy of making it to the NBA Finals for a second straight appearance in the best-of-seven series, the Boston Celtics headed into the offseason needing to decide whether they wanted to make Jaylen Brown one of the highest-paid players in the NBA.
Ultimately, Boston’s brass chose to sign Brown to a five-year deal worth over $300 million, which sent some shockwaves across the league, with many wondering if he was worth that amount of money.
After winning Eastern Conference Finals MVP and following that up by earning NBA Finals MVP honors while helping lead the Celtics to an 18th title, it seems the Celtics made the right move, and now they are in a similar situation with fellow superstar Jayson Tatum.
With Tatum having another stellar season and being a significant reason why the team now has the most titles in league history, Boston will almost certainly pay him this summer with a similar deal, which might surpass Brown’s total.
Still, Chris Broussard of FOX Sports believes he’s worth every penny via First Things First.
“Jayson Tatum deserves the money. No question. … But yes, he has something to prove — that he can play his best in the NBA Finals,” Broussard said.

After leading the Celtics over the Dallas Mavericks while being part of one of the best dynamic duos in the league, there’s no doubt that Tatum is deserving of this contract extension, which should be an easy piece of offseason business for the Celtics this summer.
The only question moving forward is whether Tatum and Brown can sustain this success and potentially win more titles in the years ahead.
