The Boston Celtics have three players on Team USA, but just two of them played in their first official matchup.

Surprisingly, Jayson Tatum was a healthy scratch by Steve Kerr.

The coach admitted that he had talked to him to let him know that he might not play due to Kevin Durant’s return, as he could only play so many players in a 40-minute game.

Tatum reportedly took it well and understood that he needed to have a different role with Team USA.

With that in mind, Dwight Howard made the most of the opportunity to continue his hilarious recruiting spree to try to lure Tatum to join him in Taiwan.

The former big man jokingly claimed that they needed another champion in the league, adding that he would most definitely get an opportunity to play there.

Howard has been extremely vocal about his desire to make a comeback to the NBA, but that doesn’t seem likely at this point.

Despite clearly being in game shape and being one of the greatest big men of all time, his personality and recent off-court scandals might make him too much of a distraction.

He, like DeMarcus Cousins, didn’t get a chance to walk away from the NBA on their own terms, even though they could still clearly contribute to teams, even if it’s on limited playing time.

As for Tatum, given the money he’s making, he might never have to play overseas, even if he’s up in age and still looking to hoop just for the love of the game.
