After three games played and won by a considerable margin, Team USA has advanced to the next round in the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France, and looks like the best team left in the tournament with the best chance of coming home with the gold medal.
The team seems to be firing on all cylinders, with head coach Steve Kerr calling the shots on the sidelines and superstars LeBron James and Kevin Durant getting it done on the basketball floor.
Currently, the toughest competition for the Americans as they head into knockout games seems to be Germany, Canada and potentially Australia, as they may have to face only two of these teams on their way to the gold medal game.
Even though Team USA struggled at times during the exhibition games with close calls against South Sudan, Germany and Australia, the Americans have been firing on all cylinders once these games started to count, which bodes well for them going the distance.
With how the Americans have dominated in this international competition thus far, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst believes that the reigning NBA champion Boston Celtics would’ve been able to do the same if that entire squad was competing against the world’s best via NBA Central.
“If the Boston Celtics were in this [Olympic] tournament, I think they’d have a very good chance to win it,” Windhorst said.

Windhorst is probably right, especially considering three players from that championship squad are currently on the team and making contributions, with Jayson Tatum, Jrue Holiday and Derrick White representing the Celtics.
However, this is just a hypothetical that will never happen, so we’ll never really know.
