Boston Celtics fans had extra motivation to watch Team USA’s men’s basketball team this year.
There were three Celtics on the roster: Jayson Tatum, Jrue Holiday, and Derrick White.
All three players were slotted to have important roles on this team, especially Tatum, who is viewed as the most prolific player of the three.
While he was instrumental in the Celtics taking home this year’s NBA Finals title, Tatum was mostly relegated to the bench during the Olympics.
There was one game where he didn’t play at all.
The decision not to play Tatum has been criticized by some, as they believe it was unfair of Steve Kerr to have him play a limited role.
Others are on Kerr’s side, and after Team USA won the gold, it might be hard to argue with them.
Regardless of how it all turned out, it will be interesting to see what Tatum’s future is going to be like with Team USA.
He recently made some comments about what the future could look like, as shared by Brian Windhorst of ESPN.
“If you asked me right now if I was going to play in 2028– it is four years from now and I [would have] to take time and think about that,” Tatum said.
The burn of not getting a lot of playing time is fresh in Tatum’s mind.
He might not be excited about the 2028 Olympics now, but with LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant likely not being around in four years, Tatum could have a chance to be the star of the team.
