The Boston Celtics will be starting the new season without their talented big man Kristaps Porzingis, who is still recovering from a surgery he had in late June.

Inside reports have said Porzingis should be ready to play some time between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

But Brad Steven recently spoke to the press, via Daniel Donabedian, and confirmed Porzingis is healing nicely.

He said the team is “very pleased” with Porzingis’ progress and “maybe even a little surprised” by how well he is doing.

This is good news for Celtics fans, who are eager to see Porzingis back as soon as possible.

Last season, Porzingis averaged 20.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game during his first year with the Celtics.

For the most part, he was very healthy.

Sadly, history repeated itself and he was injured during the playoffs, although the Celtics were still able to take down the rest of the East and win the Finals over the Dallas Mavericks.

But when news came of Porzingis’ surgery in the summer, people were worried about how long he’d be out of commission.

The Celtics have one goal for the new season: winning back-to-back championships.

This means they want to get the season off to a good start.

That is still possible without Porzingis, but much harder, especially because the Eastern Conference has gotten tougher during the offseason.

Stevens said the team is surprised by Porzingis’ progress, which has some people thinking perhaps he will be back sooner than expected.

That would be the sort of holiday surprise that would make all of Boston very happy.
