The Boston Celtics have finally gotten over the hump.
Despite the mockery, criticism, and skepticism, Joe Mazzulla’s team was able to shut down all the outside noise and take care of business.
That’s particularly true for Jayson Tatum, who took a big step back and wasn’t particularly at his best during the playoffs but stepped up big time in the last two wins of the NBA Finals for them.
Now, Tatum is looking at generational pay, as he’s eligible to sign a 5-year supermax contract extension worth a staggering $315 million.
That’s a no-brainer decision for Brad Stevens and the Celtics, and they were most likely going to give him that kind of money regardless of how this year went.
With that in mind, sports analyst Chris Broussard claimed that as much as Tatum deserved and should get that kind of money, he still has something to prove.
Talking on FOX’s First Things First, Broussard stated that Tatum still needed to prove that he could be at his best when it mattered the most and play well when his team needed him in the NBA Finals.
"Jayson Tatum deserves the money. No question. … But yes, he has something to prove — that he can play his best in the NBA Finals."

That’s slightly unfair, as Tatum took matters into his own hands in Games 3 and 5.
Of course, the knock on him is that he does most of his damage when his team is already up double digits and that he cannot get a shot to fall when it counts.
But at this point, it just feels like people are nitpicking with him.
