The Boston Celtics’ 18th NBA championship was years in the making, both literally and figuratively.
Danny Ainge and Brad Stevens slowly but surely crafted the most dominant and talented roster in the NBA, and it had been 16 full seasons since they last hoisted the Larry O’Brien trophy.
That’s way more than usual for the winningest franchise in the NBA, which is why this title meant so much more to them.
Considering that, a few fans decided to pay tribute to this team and wish them well ahead of a potential championship-clinching matchup, which is why they decided to name their newborn son Jrue (via The Boston Globe & Yahoo Sports).

Per the report, Jrue was born at 6:17 p.m. on 6/17.
Clearly, that worked like a charm, as the Celtics dominated from the jump and didn’t look back to beat the Dallas Mavericks.
Jrue Holiday didn’t need a lot of time to become a fan favorite.
The former Milwaukee Bucks player was the X-factor this team needed to get over the hump once and for all, not only playing top-tier backcourt defense but also knocking down timely shots, especially in the playoffs.
Holiday gave this team the championship experience they had been craving, and while he wasn’t even supposed to be there, he always embraced his new teammates and the organization from the very second they traded for him.
Baby Jrue will now have a nice story to tell when asked about his name, and his basketball team has been chosen for him until the end of time.
