No one is entirely sure where Bronny James will end up in the NBA.

While many believe the Los Angeles Lakers will secure the son of LeBron James in next week’s draft, some people feel other teams should try to sign him.

Diehard Boston Celtics fan Bill Simmons proposed a clever and harsh idea: the Celtics should draft Bronny and then “hold him hostage.”

On the latest episode of his podcast, per NBACentral, Simmons laid out his plans:

“Here’s my case: everybody says this draft sucks. The Celtics are so deep… anyone in this draft isn’t going to play for them. Why not take Bronny and you basically hold him hostage? Because all these other teams want him, right?.. The Lakers, you want him? Well we took Bronny, give us Max Christie. How bad do you want him? I would say Bronny the asset at 30 as a trade thing is worth more than anyone they could get here.”

If the Celtics took Simmons’ advice, they would make their rivalry with the Lakers even more intense.

Simmons wants to see just how much the Lakers desire Bronny.

But if the Celtics followed through on this idea, it could backfire on them.

Firstly, the Lakers are certainly interested in having Bronny but they aren’t willing to do that much for him.

This is even more true after recent reports said LeBron’s desire to play with his son isn’t enough to make him move teams.

LeBron would love to be on the same team as Bronny, but he’s not going to alter his career to make that happen.

So if the Celtics did sign Bronny, they might not get anything from the Lakers in exchange for him.

The Celtics are already so strong and the best team in the NBA, so why would they need to pursue this strategic move?
