Stephen A. Smith is never afraid of confidently stating his opinions on national television.
And while he receives criticism from many fans, he doesn’t often hear from the players he analyzes.
But Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics wasn’t happy with a recent statement from Smith.
On ESPN, Smith stated that an unnamed source said Brown is unlikable and has a big ego.
On Twitter, Brown pushed back against that with a simple request to Smith: “State your source.”

To show how serious he was about this, Brown actually wore a shirt with the same phrase before the Celtics’ championship parade on Friday, according to a video shared by NBC Sports.
Brown is obviously very adamant about Smith backing up his claim with some proof.

It is very unlikely that Smith will respond in the way that Brown wants, which means this could be the start of a new rivalry between these two.
It wouldn’t be the first time that an NBA star has called out Smith and demanded he either retract his words or speak about his sources.
While it rarely happens, Smith is used to it and probably won’t say much more on the matter.
However, there is a chance that he will get fired up by Brown and continue to speak about him in the days ahead.
Now that the NBA season is over, this little conflict could escalate and become a major story.
Someone may have told Smith that Brown has a big ego but that didn’t seem to be the case this week.
He and his team appeared incredibly close and friendly as they claimed the title and everyone from Jayson Tatum to Joe Mazzulla to others obviously cares for Brown.
