The Boston Celtics are the defending champions and, as such, they’re now officially the team to beat in the NBA.
They didn’t need to make a lot of moves this offseason.
Even with Kristaps Porzingis likely to miss a chunk of the upcoming campaign, they seem to be set for years to come.
That’s why GM Brad Stevens doubled down on his championship team and either re-signed or extended some of their core players.
That includes a league-record $314 million contract extension for Jayson Tatum.
Nonetheless, as much as the Celtics could be poised to compete for years, sports analyst Craig Carton isn’t so sure about them.
Talking on Tuesday’s edition of The Carton Show, the controversial pundit admitted that the rest of the league was currently chasing Boston, but he just doesn’t see them as dynasty material.

Truth be told, the Eastern Conference got significantly more interesting upon Mikal Bridges arriving with the New York Knicks and Paul George signing with the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Milwaukee Bucks will continue to be a perennial candidate for as long as they have Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard.
Still, even if Carton isn’t that impressed by the reigning champions, they seem to be at least half a step ahead of the competition right now.
The Western Conference is also stacked and should have several legitimate contenders in the foreseeable future and some of them should pose a bigger threat than the 2023-24 Dallas Mavericks, but the Celtics are the team to beat until proven otherwise.
