On Monday, Jayson Tatum, fresh off winning his first NBA championship, received a massive contract extension from the Boston Celtics that will be worth $314 million over five years.
One would think that a star in Tatum’s situation would be taking it easy right now, especially since it is so early in the summer.
But Tatum was seen hitting the gym in a social media post, apparently getting ready for his team’s title defense, which will start in October.

While Tatum once again played poorly on the big stage this postseason during the NBA Finals, he had a strong performance in Game 5 of the championship series.
He scored 31 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished off 11 assists as the Celtics finished off the Dallas Mavericks in an 18-point victory in order to claim their first Larry O’Brien Trophy since 2008.
While co-star Jaylen Brown won Finals MVP honors, Tatum remains, at least in the eyes of many, the best player on the Celtics.
Since he and Brown are in their mid-20s, plenty of people feel Boston is about to reel off a dynasty, but on the other hand, starting point guard Jrue Holiday is up there in age, as is reserve center Al Horford, who is 38 years of age.
In addition, starting center Kristaps Porziņģis could miss the start of the 2024-25 season due to a rare leg injury he suffered during the NBA Finals.
His long history of injuries is certainly a general concern for the Celtics moving forward.
But despite big additions made by the New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers, the Celtics still have to be considered the favorites to win it all again, at least for now.
