The United States Olympic Committee spent a long time trying to curate the perfect roster to compete in this year’s games.
After deciding on their final roster, however, Kawhi Leonard decided to drop out, leaving an open spot on the team.
Derrick White was chosen to replace him, a move that has been viewed as questionable by some fans and analysts.
However, longtime NBA veteran Lebron James expressed his frustration towards these comments in a recent interview shared by NBCS Celtics on Twitter.
James said, “What can Derrick White add? Just poise, his ability to guard, his ability to shoot the ball. Bringing in another championship DNA guy, it’s great.”

White was picked over several players, including his All-Star teammate, Jaylen Brown.
It is clear that the committee had a specific plan in place for this roster, and even after having an opportunity to replace Leonard, they went with White over Brown.
James is perfectly fine with this decision, even excited that White is now a part of the team.
Team USA is looking for any possible edge over their competition throughout the Olympics, and a player like White could certainly help them accomplish their goals.
It will be interesting to see how Team USA decides to divvy up playing time, seeing all of the stars they have on their roster.
Some difficult decisions will need to be made down the stretch, which will include the players being paired together on the court at any given time.
