Jayson Tatum is, undeniably, one of the most talented players in the NBA.
His numbers back that up, his résumé backs that up, and even the eye test backs that up.
Nonetheless, many fans don’t seem to respect him enough, mostly because — prior to this season — he had disappeared in key times over and over.
More than that, the fact that he played on the most stacked team in the league made people state that his impact on winning was minimal, particularly when he didn’t play well.
Notably, it seems like Joel Embiid feels just that way about him.
In a recent podcast appearance, the Philadelphia 76ers star agreed with the notion that Tatum has a super team around him, even going as far as to say that if he goes 5-for-20 from the floor, the Sixers will get blown out (via NBA Central).

Perhaps that’s not the best thing to say when you’re playing by his side in the Olympics.
Tatum is one of the best players in the game, and having him there obviously makes things easier for his team, but the Celtics could also get by without him.
Both statements are true and can coexist, and it doesn’t have to be a shot at Tatum.
Then again, it doesn’t make sense to hold that against any player; it’s not his fault that he’s surrounded by talent, and it’s not like they carried him to an NBA championship.
