After winning 64 games during the NBA regular season, the Boston Celtics headed into the playoffs as the team to beat, firing on all cylinders with little resistance in the Eastern Conference to stop them from reaching the 2024 NBA Finals.
Ultimately, the Celtics made easy work of every opponent they faced on their way to the Finals, as no team could keep up with the duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, who were finally able to live up to expectations during the 2023-24 campaign.
As if the Celtics’ dominance in the regular season and Eastern Conference playoffs wasn’t impressive enough, Joe Mazzulla’s squad continued to dominate in the Finals, as Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks were no match for Boston.
The Celtics went on to defeat the Mavericks in five games with relative ease and lifted the Larry O’Brien Trophy for an NBA record 18th time, breaking a tie with the rival Los Angeles Lakers for the most titles won by a franchise in league history.
With the Celtics at the top again, the head coach of EuroLeague champion Panathinaikos has challenged the reigning NBA champions to see who is truly a “world champion,” according to Eurohoops.
“If you want to get the world champion title, come and beat us in Oaka,” coach Ergin Ataman said.

The head coach of Euroleague champions Panathinaikos, Ergin Ataman, challenges NBA champions, Boston Celtics. With the world catching up to the NBA in terms of talent, especially with many of the league’s top-tier players from overseas — Doncic, Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid and Victor Wembanyama — this would be an interesting game to be put together on an annual basis.
The NBA might want to make this happen, and even though the players probably wouldn’t be crazy about playing another game, it would be interesting to see the result.
